The Durham Greener Homes Program continues to expand, making it easier and more affordable for Durham residents to create energy-efficient, comfortable, and climate-friendly homes. The Region is now offering incentives for deep energy retrofits, available to all Durham residents. Eligible homeowners can receive up to a $5,000 rebate through the Durham Greener Homes deep retrofit incentive to help reduce their home’s energy consumption. Whitby residents, in particular, can benefit from an enhanced offer, with rebates of up to $10,000, thanks to the Town of Whitby’s allocation of Housing Accelerator Funds. These funds match Durham Region’s incentives to support the development of low-carbon, climate-resilient housing in the community.

Whitby Deep Retrofit Rebate: Double the Benefits for Whitby Residents

The Town of Whitby’s rebate is fully stackable with Durham Region’s Deep Retrofit Rebate, effectively doubling the incentives for Whitby residents. This means eligible homeowners in Whitby can receive up to $10,000 in rebates when they significantly reduce their home’s energy use. The Whitby Deep Retrofit Rebate is designed to reward residents who achieve a 50% or greater reduction in energy use (measured in Gigajoules per year) between their pre- and post-retrofit EnerGuide evaluations.

• Energy Use Reduction: Whitby residents can receive between $2,500 and $5,000 for achieving a 50% or greater reduction in energy use.
• Additional Incentives: For every 1% reduction in energy use beyond 50%, the rebate increases by $50.

These rebates are fully stackable with Durham Region’s Deep Retrofit Rebate, allowing Whitby residents to maximize their savings and further support the transition to more energy-efficient homes.
